L.I.S.A., Inc. is pleased to announce that the eBay Foundation recently awarded a GIVE Team grant of $5,500.00 to the agency's Connections Mentor Program. This
grant was made possible as a result of Marti Pelosi, an eBay Inc.
employee and Susan Scully of Scully Travel here in Wolcott who
recommended the organization for funding.
Funds will support the
Connections Mentor Program through an interactive team building,
Explore the City competition. The project involves mentor/mentee pairs
traveling and exploring either New York City or Boston. Youth and their
mentors will visit tourist attractions, take in a show, dine in the
city, and visit museums.
After their trips,
mentors and mentees will create a presentation to share their
experiences. The goals of the project are to provide youth with real
life experience in the area of life skills through planning, budgeting,
time management, communication, team building, documentation, and group
presentation. For many of the youth involved, this will be their first
exposure to exclusive city attractions.
This experience will
also serve to increase youths confidence in navigating a city and taking
advantage of the cultural enrichment offered. In addition, the
activities promote a sense of accomplishment in an interactive,
enjoyable, and recreational way. The project also aims to solidify trust
between mentors and mentees, increase the interactive communication and
likelihood of sustaining long-term stable relationship, and improve
interpersonal relations between them.
Advanced Education for our Kids
L.I.S.A., Inc. strongly believes that education is a key factor in
empowering our youth in becoming self-sufficient adults.
College/Vocational School acceptance letters have started to come in and
our high school seniors are deciding where they will attend school this
fall. These residents are starting to realize how their hard work,
determination, and commitment to pursue a higher education will assist
them in ensuring a successful future.
