Welcome!
Living
In Safe Alternatives (LISA), Inc. is a private, non-profit organization that has served
the needs of abused, abandoned, adjudicated and neglected
youth for 40 years. Our agency's initials also refer
to the infamous case of Lisa Steinberg from Brooklyn
New York, one of over 1000 children who died from abuse
in 1988.
Our History
Plainville Group
Home was established in Plainville, CT in 1970 in response
to adolescent girls needing a place to live due to severe
abuse, neglect, abandonment and various family crises.
In 1976, Beacon House Group Home, located on Pine Street
in Waterbury, CT, opened as a part of the Group Homes
of Greater Waterbury. These two programs, managed
by house parents, provided a permanent home placement,
support and stability to young women to assist them
in recuperating from the traumas in their lives.

Our Programs
LISA
Inc. operates four programs in Connecticut. These programs
include two group homes for adolescent females, Beacon
House in Wolcott and Plainville
Group Home; the Supervised Apartments
and Independent
Living (SAIL)
Program in Bristol for both males and females including
young mothers; and the
Community Based Life Skills

education program. LISA also has a vocational training
program, Stitch Together.
This
agency serves primarily poor minority clients from urban
environments in Connecticut, although we accept clients
from any socio-economic or racial background. Our residential
programs provide a safe, nurturing and structured environment
in which needed services can be provided. Our goals
are to assist our clients in recuperating from the effects
of abuse and neglect, as well as to acquire the skills
necessary to build a healthy and happy future. Our programs
served 69 clients in the year 2002.
